Hanging out with my family. Meeting and spending time with other families from very diverse communities surrounding Lubber Run (including the largely white/upper-middle-class single-family neighborhoods; the largely minority community in Arlington’s single largest concentration of affordable housing; elders in Culpepper Garden and The Carlin; and young, single millennials in the new apartments, condos, and townhouses).
Holding and attending community meetings; attending classes, lectures, seminars, discussion groups, book readings.
Getting exercise.
My child meeting friends after school to work on projects and homework; playing games and sports; participating in enrichment activities.

What types of spaces and uses should the new Lubber Run Community Center have?
A central, flexible, comfortable, multi-purpose meeting/hang-out space with a view over the wooded part of Lubber Run Park and the children’s playground.
One wall of this space might be lined with interpretive exhibits on the natural and cultural history of Lubber Run (flora, fauna, geography, Indian villages, colonial grist mills, civil war battle, the Henderson family that donated its home & estate to create the original LRCC, building of Arlington Forest—one of the first planned mixed-use communities typifying the trends of World War II planning.
The space should have a small coffee/juice bar, perhaps self-service.
Integrate the community center with the natural surroundings with a large covered deck.
A couple mid/large-size, high-ceiling, multi-purpose rooms that could be used for a variety of youth and adult indoor sports and as practice spaces for groups that will perform at the Lubber Run Amphitheater.
Classrooms for classes of all types, including expanded pre-K and after-school activities.
A soft play room for kids with disabilities.
No office space, other than for the LRCC staff.
