Question: Is the 17.7% target for a sufficient supply of affordable rental housing appropriate?
No, this target is not appropriate.
Comments (optional):
Other than ACPD police, firefighters, and ACPS teachers, no one should be subsidized to live in Arlington, Living here is not a right.
After all, all housing is affordable; it's afforded by those who can pay the rent.
Question: What are your thoughts regarding the approach to the geographic distribution of committed affordable housing?
I agree with the proposed policies, but I would add other considerations (explain below).
Comments (optional):
If we must have affordable housing, it should be in the areas which have the lowest land cost, and thus the lowest opportunity cost lost for property tax revenue on improvement value. This means they should not be located close to Metro stations or SFHs north of Lee Highway.
Question: Should Arlington County residents and workers receive a preference for committed affordable housing?
I support preference for Arlington residents, but not for workers.
Comments (optional):
If we have to subsidize people to live here, we should at least give preference to those with existing ties to the community rather than bringing in new people (who will likely further strain our schools and social services).
However, public safety workers and ACPS teachers wishing to move to the County should be given preference over residents already in the county.
Question: Is it appropriate for this plan to address middle income ownership housing demands?
Yes, it is appropriate.
Question: Should we be using public funds for higher-income households?
No, I do not agree.
Question: Would it be more appropriate to address this demand through land use provisions rather than financing?
No, that is not more appropriate.

Question: Should opportunities for creating greater flexibility of housing types beyond the urban corridors that support both rental and ownership options be further studied?
