Would you support DPR setting an annual cap on the surcharge?
Yes

Is there anything else you'd like to say about the fees and surcharges associated with Arlington County's gymnastics and aquatics teams?
Yes, the work group's recommendations are a step in the right direction. I have had two children in the gymnastics program one in the recreation program and one on team. The gymnastics program draws from out-of-county because it's the best program within the Metro area. Parents are "voting with their feet" and choosing to come to Arlington because of the quality of this program. DON'T MESS IT UP WITH EXORBITANT SURCHARGES! These out-of-county families are Virginia taxpayers like those of us in Arlington. They pay slightly more and that's fair, it's not fair to gouge them. They are also indirectly funding payments on Arlington County Bonds by their participation. Significant surcharges will decrease participation and reduce incoming funds -- that's would be a poor business decision by county leaders
Beginning in January, the work group will take stock of the operating model for these teams. Do you have any input you would like to provide on this topic at this time?
The teams are successful because they have excellent coaches and, gymnasts on team who children from the recreational program emulate. Level 8 and 9 gymnasts are hard to come by and the Team needs support from out of county participants to be competitive. Stated another way the entire program benefits from out-of county team members because: 1) Those parents drive to Arlington five times a week and spend money at local businesses, and 2) the opportunity to be on a good Club Team is significant selling point for those who could choose other rec facilities.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
While Sports in Arlington County High Schools is starting to be successful, that's not always been the case. If there is any question about the value added by the Aerials look no farther than the W&L and Yorktown Gymnastics Teams, which are fed primarily by Aerial gymnasts. These teams, W&L in particular, are Virginia High School Gymnastics Powerhouses. If you want to see a benefit of Team gymnastics look no further than the won-loss record of these teams, and the pride it brings to the entire community
