Our society admonishes people, particularly our youth, to drink responsibly. Bar crawls - as the name implies - are not about responsible drinking. This is a way some establishments can make more money at, as it turns out, other people's expense. As we see over and over again, drunk individuals do not act responsibly. They often do damage to themselves, others, or property.
Any event promoter or business establishment that is involved with or participates in a bar crawl ought to be held responsible for the additional expenses incurred regarding police, fire/ems, cleaning and property damages. The police and fire/ems are busy enough on regular weekends and holidays without adding unnecessary insanity and work. Actually, the more I think about this, the more I think we don't need bar crawls at all. They're more of a headache than they're worth. Drunken behavior is not only a nuisance, it's dangerous. Arlington establishments have functioned just fine without them. If folks want to drink a lot, then they can do so at home.
