Share input on eight preliminary bike & pedestrian rail crossing design concepts in South Palo Alto.
The City is working to make walking and bicycling easier in Palo Alto. This year, the City Council is considering updates to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan (Bike Ped Plan) and advancing several major infrastructure projects, such as rail grade separation, quiet zone studies at all Palo Alto Caltrain crossings, several traffic calming projects, and more. The previous 2012 Bike Ped Plan identified a critical need for grade-separated bicycle and pedestrian pathways.
The South Palo Alto Bike/Ped Connectivity effort will identify community-supported locations and design concepts where two new grade-separated bicycle and pedestrian pathways across the Caltrain railroad tracks may be constructed. Creating a path above or below the tracks will improve bicycle and pedestrian connectivity, supporting the City’s mobility and sustainability goals.
This survey asks you to respond to the eight preliminary rail crossing design alternatives and accompanying bicycle and pedestrian improvements to connect neighborhood streets in South Palo Alto. Your response will help the City compare options and select two alternatives for further refinement ahead of City Council consideration. Deadline to submit your feedback is October 12, 2025.

Please note: Design concepts shown in this survey are preliminary and intended for discussion purposes only. All concepts are flexible and subject to refinement. Additional community engagement and technical design work will be planned once locations and basic design concepts have been decided. This effort is separate from the Rail Grade Separation project, and will identify two additional bike and pedestrian crossings.
