Help Us Improve Cubberley/Online Activity
The City has launched a master planning effort using past community engagement as a foundation to prioritize the future of the Cubberley Community Center, following agreement by the City and the School District to purchase seven acres of property on and around the center for a total of 15 acres, upon passage of a voter approved tax or bond measure, to support a reimagined community center and advance school improvements. In June, the City held the second community meeting advancing the project vision that would create- A vibrant, beloved, and adaptable destination that promotes learning, connections, joy, and wellbeing where all cultures and generations belong.
The June discussion focused on concept designs seeking feedback on the overall layout, relationship of built space vs. outdoor space, and pedestrian/bike traffic flow. The presentation also highlighted what’s next, noting that the September meeting will combine feedback from the three concepts with programming results from the first meeting to inform a single final concept design. Additionally, the possibility of preserving and renovating certain existing buildings and the importance of phasing the construction was reinforced. These important elements will help to ensure the continuity of a level of services and allows for consideration of additional funding sources beyond the ballot-supported bond, such as public/private partnerships, grants, and impact fees.
Three concept designs presented to the community for feedback were: The Diagonal, The Grid and The Linear. Each concept presents a unique layout for buildings, green space, promenades, and pedestrian/bike circulation and considers new construction, renovation, underground parking, and above ground parking. Each design concept has a primary design and two alternatives. We’re not asking you to choose a single favorite design. Instead, we are seeking feedback on individual elements you like or don’t like from each concept.
As noted, input will be combined into a single preferred design along with possible programming, which will be shared at our next community meeting on September 17. Please join the conversation and plan on attending our next meeting to share programming feedback.
