What are your thoughts about actions the City of Norfolk should take to address the COVID-19 crisis?
The City of Norfolk should better address the COVID-19 crisis by allocating more funds to PPE for essential workers and hospital staff, as well as, emergency supplies for hurricane season.
Small businesses should be supported on a long term basis but allocating funds to parklets and outdoor furniture and supporting sit down eating where people gather without masks on is an extreme health hazard and will potentially keep businesses closed even longer which will impact Norfolks economy negatively. There are smarter, safer, and more impactful ways that our elected officials could help our local businesses and regenerate money in our local economy. I also take issue with the underwhelming initiative to enact outdoor dining because of the projected hurricane season forecasted. It is set to be one of the worst we have ever seen. It seems very counter intuitive to spend even a fraction of the budget on outdoor arrangements with the information known about a potential second wave of COVID-19 that will likely force restaurants to limit operations again and projected hurricanes already forming. I would hope for those reading this to start allocating funds to disaster relief efforts/supplies and support businesses in taking on new models of operation for the next year to two years as our people and economy recover from the current crisis
Are you the owner of a microbusiness/microenterprise, defined as five or fewer employees including the owner?
