Hospitable to
Knowledge
Workers
By 2050, Norfolk will be… (tell us what you think in as many words as you would like!)
City gov’t should be attuned to the giant cultural shift from technology workers who live and work on the coasts to the new knowledge worker who chooses to live somewhere because they like it. Attracting these workers requires awareness of lifestyle choices (ease of access to airport, recreation, beaches, harbors for large boats, availability of restaurants and good entertainment)without being a burden to the city budget. These workers bring money, taxes, and open up jobs for low income people-like child care, house care, lawn care, maintenance, boat repair-the list goes on and on. If you concentrated on making Norfolk a great place to live, all the other concerns flow downstream. When there is prosperity, everyone benefits. Prosperity today has a new package-its the knowledge worker-not casinos or real estate. Don’t miss tge trend and condemn Norfolk to poverty for the next 50 years!
