Main Street's Expanded Shopping & Dinning Area - Share your experience!
On June 19, Downtown Midland closed two blocks of Main Street to vehicular traffic and created pedestrian plazas to provide additional shopping and dining space for the district's restaurants and retailers and to provide safer physical distancing outside.
Outdoor restrooms, hand washing stations and additional picnic tables were added to help minimize the number of times visitors might need to go inside a store or restaurant. Planters and painted intersection barricades were added to help beautify the area and musical entertainment is added when possible.
The goals of the program are:
- To provide more space for businesses who must limit the number of customers inside their business and adhere to physical distancing requirements;
- To enhance the comfort level of customers returning to shopping and dining activities by providing more room for physical distancing; and
- To assist Downtown Midland businesses in recovering revenues lost due to COVID-19 closures and restrictions.
The Main Street closure is anticipated to last through July 31, 2020 and could be extended if the goals are being met.

Tell us what you think.
As this closure is now underway, the DDA wants to hear feedback from Downtown visitors about their experiences in this expended shopping and dining area. This survey will ask about your activities downtown, where you went, and how you felt while you were there. If you haven't yet experienced the Downtown closure: tell us that, too!
Please take this survey only from the perspective of a visitor or customer of Downtown Midland. A separate survey will be sent to Downtown Midland business owners and employees.
Feedback will be utilized by the Downtown Development Authority, Midland Downtown Business Association, City staff, and the Midland City Council in determining the status of this closure. This feedback will be used to evaluate the community's feelings about this initiative and if the closure should continue. Survey takers can remain anonymous if desired, but being able to see how your friends and neighbors feel about the closure is good for community dialogue!
