What is Midland Neighbor Week?

It's a week dedicated to getting to know your neighbors! Neighbors are often the first people we meet in our community and are the ones closest to us that can help when we need it, so it's important that we get to know them and build relationships with them.

During the week of September 28 – October 5, 2018, Midland residents are encouraged to "stop by and say hi" to their neighbors in an effort to build a more welcoming, connected community. This year, we are partnering with the Cultural Awareness Coalition to kick off Cultural Awareness Month on National Good Neighbor Day, September 28, as a celebration of the 2018 CAC theme “Home, Migration, and Belonging.”

We've created this topic to give our residents a place online for all things neighboring as we prepare for Midland Neighbor Week. You can post new ideas, comment on others' posts, and access a variety of tools you can use to be a welcoming neighbor all year long.

Why are we doing this? 

The concept of Midland Neighboring began in 2012 as an initiative within our faith-based community to improve the quality of life in Midland by building a community that cares. In response to the catastrophic flooding event experienced in June 2017, the City of Midland recognized Midland Neighbor Week, a week-long celebration dedicated to getting to know, appreciate, and understand our neighbors.
