How do you reimagine the Downtown Midland riverfront?
How do YOU reimagine the Downtown Midland riverfront? Tell us!
The Midland Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board identified riverfront redevelopment as the top priority in its 2022 Scope of Work. What that redevelopment looks like, though, is up to you!
The 'Reimagine the Riverfront' initiative will take a focused look at the way we currently utilize public land along the Tittabawassee River from M-20 to Poseyville Road (shown on the map in yellow), as well as explore the opportunities we have to redevelop this space to meet current and future community needs. The sky's the limit - but we need your help to start imagining!
How can I participate?
The first step in this process is to collect input from residents, visitors, and Downtown stakeholders. You're in the right place!
In this survey, you'll be asked questions about how you currently use the Downtown Midland riverfront; what facilities and activities you enjoy most; and what facilities, activities, and events you'd like to see developed in this area in the future. Please consider only the section of the riverfront highlighted in yellow on the map (Downtown Midland side between the M-20 and Poseyville bridges) for this survey.
This survey is a follow-up opportunity for those who couldn't attend the public input session at City Hall on June 23. (Watch the video here!) If you attended the input session, you're welcome to take this survey to share additional thoughts!
Can I draw what I want instead?
If you're more of a hands-on dreamer, we're here for it! Click here to download a copy of the riverfront map that you can mark up, draw on, and submit to us with your ideas! Email your copy to [email protected] or mail it to Downtown Development Authority, 333 W. Ellsworth Street, Midland, MI 48640 by August 5, 2022.
A note about development in the floodplain
This area of the riverfront is located within the Tittabawassee River floodplain and has been impacted by previous flooding events. This is an important factor that will be considered as we move through the redevelopment process and may limit the types of development that can be built in this area. As you take this survey, please consider that some amenities cannot be successfully implemented along this area of the riverfront - no matter how fun or cool they may be!
What's next?
Feedback from this survey will be used by City staff, project consultants, the DDA Board, and the Reimagine the Riverfront advisory committee to develop preliminary design concepts and explore opportunities for a redeveloped Downtown Midland riverfront. While we may not be able to include every idea submitted through this survey, your feedback is still important!
