My daughter and I enjoy having lunch in downtown Littleton and shopping. I was very disappointed when you decided that the merchants could no longer display items on the sidewalks. It took away from the charm of walking down main street. I lived in Littleton back in the early 1950's and even as a small child loved strolling (well maybe running) down main street. Part of the reason we moved back in this area 40 plus years ago was the uniqueness of Littleton. Over the years that charm is disappearing. For one thing you are allowing to many multi family units to be built. Research has shown that, on average, an apartment dwellers stay just one year then moves on to another place. As such they do not have a vested interest in keeping Littleton's character. I certainly hope you will not allow more apartments to be built on the property at Federal and Bellview. I asked the owner of O'Tooles Garden Center is they had thought about purchasing the land. He informed me that they had, and were turned down. What a shame! That would make excellent use of the property and provide revenue for the city.
Values & Vision (Part 1): What do you value most about Downtown Littleton?
The historic significance.
Values & Vision (Part 2): When you are downtown, what makes Littleton stand out from other communities of similar size/demographic?
The small town atmosphere.
Three Wishes: What three wishes would you make to heighten the vitality and health of Downtown Littleton?
Overturn the rule that the merchants can no longer display their wares outside of their stores on the sidewalks.
Provide parking! Perhaps the city could purchase land on either side of Main Street and build a parking structure, or, purchase the land across Santa Fe at Bowels (North of Direct TV) and build a parking structure there, with a walking bridge over Santa Fe to Main street.
