Tell us about the best times you have had in and around Downtown Littleton. Thinking about that experience, what was involved that made is stand out above the rest? Who else was involved? Can you please describe this in detail?
Love the community events and coming from the mid west I appreciate the the downtown Littleton area. It is what drove me to pick this town. Best time are the events. They have all been fun but we definitely see room for improvement. The Christmas parade is our favorite and we love that that street is closed off but would love to see that night improved.
Values & Vision (Part 1): What do you value most about Downtown Littleton?
I love the sense of community. I think over the past couple of years it has really started to change for the better. I would love to see more diverse retail like a Antique shop or coffee shop with larger sitting area for families, students etc... sandwich shops that have a home town feel.
Values & Vision (Part 2): When you are downtown, what makes Littleton stand out from other communities of similar size/demographic?
The fact that we have a down town it is why I chose to live in Littleton. My family usually visits downtown area 3-4 times a week. My only comparison is what I grew up with and I think Littleton is on the right track to make it stand out from other cities in this area.
Three Wishes: What three wishes would you make to heighten the vitality and health of Downtown Littleton?
I would concentrate on the events as it is this type of thing that can help drive COMMUNITY. I think there is a huge opportunity to improve some of the events. example - The Santa/Lights parade - After the parade I would love to see a DJ or even some loud speakers playing christmas music. Who does not love dancing!!! This would be a fun thing for all ages.. families, teens, college students home on break. As for myself... i know that after the parade I still want social time with friends/families but need something to entertain the kids with or do. Before or after... i would love to have a Christmas Carol Sing off in the street. Let the local store owners sell treats or hot drinks. This would give people a chance to meet the local retailers. Make them a friend and people will be more loyal to shop at their sotre. We love walking around but once you hit the side streets it all seems to be kind of dark and boring after the event. They need to be brighten up a bit. We used to let the high schools or local 4H clubs come up with seasonal theme games for younger children.
I also love the fall with the pole contests..and the local high schools and business's art work. I would not mind seeing something for every holiday or for the seasons. October is anther example that would help increase foot traffic in the downtown area. If Reinke brothers opens this year... It would be great to see October events through out the month or even a giant costume party event. If I was a retailer, I would love more events that drive traffic past my location. Give me a reason to walk the area and I will come but remember... I need something to keep all ages entertained. I would use the holiday/seasons to my advantage to help drive revenue. As a person of the community I want retail shops that will be there for a long time. It gives me a sense of HOME. But they have to be the right mix. Maybe think about putting a community/retailer based committee together.
