If more destinations were bicycle friendly (secured bike parking, shower facilities, tool stations) would more people bike?
I think more people would use the bus or light-rail if:
it was cheaper (both out of pocket and any tax subsidies) and would provide support for a greater variety of schedules.
I am comfortable getting to a bus-stop or light rail station, grocery stores, health care, shopping and entertainment, employment opportunities in Littleton.
Here are my ideas for making getting to places in a more comfortable way.
Mass transit in my opinion is too expensive and will not meet the needs for the volume of traffic I see in Littleton. I find it not cost-effective enough to compete with owning and operating a vehicle. It takes in many cases more than 30 minutes to make it to a reasonable destination than it would be to drive myself. Therefore, it seems reasonable to: increase the capacity of the road systems within Littleton. The key intersections are Santa Fe and Bowles/Littleton and Mineral and Santa Fe. Broadway is also often backed up from Arapahoe to C-470 during rush hour. During rush hour traffic is back up more than is safe or reasonable. Mass transit should also do whatever possible to cut costs and increase flexibility to make it compete with single drivers. Well over 50% of my movement is not repetitive. So mass transit would need to provide a solution so that it competes with driving myself.
I would shop local if I could walk to neighborhood stores and shops if I could walk to them.
Is there any way that the Unified Land Use Code can support getting around more easily?
Plan for the volume of traffic forecasted and build roads to accommodate the forecast.
