If more destinations were bicycle friendly (secured bike parking, shower facilities, tool stations) would more people bike?
I think more people would use the bus or light-rail if:
Homes were closer to the stations. It can be draining to add a drive time to the commute to the light rail station. Prior to covid it could take me 20+ minutes to get to the mineral station from my home to then take the light-rail to metro. If there were more affordable housing locations closer to the station, I would be more apt to walk to the station, jump on the light-rail to go to downtown and then back again without having to drive. As it is, it's much easier to drive to downtown Littleton than to take the light-rail. Bus routes are also out of the way and force people to commute to bus stations, adding time to the commute.
I am comfortable getting to a bus-stop or light rail station, grocery stores, health care, shopping and entertainment, employment opportunities in Littleton.
Here are my ideas for making getting to places in a more comfortable way.
Everything is very spread out. More corner stores, local neighborhood shops would increase the walking mobility. Also the introductions of e-bikes or scooters may help getting around, especially along the Platte river parkway that connects downtown Littleton to Breck Brewery, Carboy, and Aspen Grove. These are all great destinations, but really only currently accessible by car. Having a bus stop nearby these may help.
I would shop local if I could walk to neighborhood stores and shops if I could walk to them.
Is there any way that the Unified Land Use Code can support getting around more easily?
More local corner stores, more mixed use buildings (live/work), more options to get around, more bus routes/stops at important destinations, more options to help with the last mile.
