Share your input on minor design elements for the Inkster Avenue Bridge Reconstruction.

The Inkster Avenue Bridge over Bronson Boulevard was closed to vehicles in May 2021 out of an abundance of caution pertaining to safety concerns. The bridge has remained open to pedestrians and bicyclists. Reconstruction of the bridge will start no later than 2024. 

The project will provide two-way traffic for all bridge users across Bronson Boulevard, restoring neighborhood connectivity for motor vehicles while maintaining a pedestrian walkway. A design process for the bridge began in 2020 and is scheduled to be completed later this spring in order to apply for additional funding opportunities. This is a state-funded bridge reconstruction project and is required to provide vehicular traffic lanes both to keep the street network connected and to enable future funding for projects along Inkster Avenue. The primary design of the bridge will not change but minor design elements will be considered. 

NEXT STEPS:

1. MDOT (MI Department of Transportation) funding secured for 2024 reconstruction

2. Preparing design now in case funds are available in 2023

3. Neighborhood Planning discussions for traffic calming and pedestrian & bike network in 2022/23 with goal of implementation with bridge construction
