How well does the above draft map showing all proposed districts represent your community?
How well does “Draft Plan A, District A” represent your community?
What would you change about "Draft Plan A, District A"?
It seems strange to include such a large portion of eastern Humboldt in this district - it's a three hour drive from Willow Creek to Shelter Cove, and it's hard to argue they're in the same community/

This seems like a logical district to me.
How well does “Draft Plan A, District C” represent your community?
What would you change about "Draft Plan A, District C"?
This district would include my home, and I'm frankly a little bit disturbed by this proposed district. There's no logic, in my mind, to grouping Arcata and Eureka together into the same district. They are different communities, with different issues and needs. Eureka is arbitrarily divided along a north-south axis. To me, this seems like a poorly-disguised attempt to pack as much of urban Humboldt into as small a district as possible.
What would you keep about "Draft Plan A, District C"?
Nothing.

To reiterate, I think it would be a grave mistake in political apportionment to put Eureka and Arcata into the same supervisorial district.

Seems odd to have Willow Creek + Shelter Cove in the same district.

This is not as egregious as Draft Plan A in its treatment of Eureka's West Side. The Samoa Peninsula would be natural addition here, but my biggest problem with this district is that it still splits Eureka down a north-south axis, dividing our city into two districts. Redistricting should focus on keeping defined, cohesive communities intact - and this map does not accomplish that. It would make a lot more sense to split southern Eureka from the rest of the city, if Eureka must be divided.
What would you keep about “Draft Plan B, District C”?
I would keep the Samoa Peninsula in the same district as Eureka's West Side.
How well does “Draft Plan B, District D” represent your community?
What would you change about “Draft Plan B, District D”?
This is a strange district, to me. The eastern portion of Eureka is carved out and bundled together with almost all of Arcata, stretching north as far as Highway 299. To me, this district seems designed to dilute the representation of Eureka's eastern residents.
What would you keep about “Draft Plan B, District D”?
If this district stretched east to Blue Lake instead of south to Eureka, I think it'd make more sense.
How well does “Draft Plan B, District E” represent your community?

Overall, this full county plan separates Eureka and Arcata along unnatural boundaries. It's better than Plan A, but not by much.

Why does District A include such a long swath of ocean along the Lost Coast? Is Rex Bohn going to drive down there and hold meetings in the surf with the elephant seals?

District C keeps Arcata intact, adds Blue Lake, and I think it's totally logical to extend outwards to the Kneeland area to scoop up some of those communities. Looks good.

Nothing, this district looks great.
What would you keep about “Draft Plan C, District D”?
I feel that this Draft Plan C, District D by far goes the farthest in keeping my community intact. It does not divide Eureka along an artificial north-south line, and instead largely divides it along a natural boundary between Eureka proper and the communities to the south (Cutten, Rosewood, Pine Hill, etc.). A small portion of Southern Eureka is lost, but it's not much. I also really appreciate most of the Samoa Peninsula being included in this district.

This is such a much better place for Willow Creek than the other draft plans - it is far more logical to include it with the other inland communities of Orleans and Weitchpec rather than putting it in a mega-district stretching to Shelter Cove.

Draft Plan C is the clear winner of these three maps. It does far more to keep communities together, and breaks down along more natural boundaries than the alternative options.
