How well does the above draft map showing all proposed districts represent your community?
How well does “Draft Plan A, District A” represent your community?
What would you change about "Draft Plan A, District A"?
This is the most gerrymandered, bizarre district of them all. Even if the elected supervisor had an electric car, they probably couldn't get to all their constituents in one charge.
What would you keep about "Draft Plan A, District A"?
I still do not know why the southernmost districts are not divided horizontally on the map as opposed to this difficult-to-travel arrangement. Just cut off the north part--the arm that goes to Willow Creek and paste it on to the south. Petrolia and Willow Creek in the same district makes no sense.
How well does “Draft Plan A, District B” represent your community?
What would you change about "Draft Plan A, District B"?
Why is the cut between districts vertical as opposed to horizontal? Is Southern Humboldt so distinctly different on the east and west sides?
What would you keep about "Draft Plan A, District B"?
The more southern part.
How well does “Draft Plan A, District C” represent your community?
What would you change about "Draft Plan A, District C"?
Get Eureka out! Include the Bottom--it is part of Arcata. Blue Lake shares more with Arcata than western Eureka.
What would you keep about "Draft Plan A, District C"?
Arcata and the Peninsula fit well together.
How well does “Draft Plan A, District D” represent your community?
What would you change about “Draft Plan A, District D”?
Maintain Eureka as an entity; do not exclude one portion. What would you keep about “Draft Plan A, District D”?
Most of Eureka is included. How well does “Draft Plan A, District E” represent your community?
What would you change about “Draft Plan A, District E”?
Willow Creek is not included, however Hoopa and environs are. Is the supervisor supposed to drive over Bald Hills to access his or her district? Ditto for including what looks like the Arcata Bottom. Districts need to be contiguous by transportation in order to make sense. Are we not supposed to be decreasing transportation-related emissions?
What would you keep about “Draft Plan A, District E”?
Most of the north part of the district remains as it has been, which makes sense.
Any other thoughts on "Draft Plan A" you would like to share? Please specify if it is the full county or a specific district you are commenting on.
Without having to access the guidelines for civility I would like to say, "What were you thinking?" Districts need to be contiguous in order for supervisors to be able to serve them adequately, particularly during winter and other times of hardship or disaster which may be coming our way, especially if we ignore that more than half of Humboldt County's pollution comes from vehicles. A supervisor should not have to tour portions of another elected official's territory in order to access his or hers.

The districts look manageable. Bearing in mind that a supervisor needs access to his or her district, this overall provides that the best of the options.
Any other comments you would like to share with the Redistricting Advisory Commission?
Plan A and B both have the same shortcomings. My comments on Plan A and B would be the same, so I omitted commenting on B. Draft Plan C is the most intelligent and least gerrymandered. Please think of the poor supervisors who are going to have to drive around their districts to meet with their constituents. Petrolia and Willow Creek do not belong in the same district!
