The state constitution requires the preservation of the geographic integrity of cities to whatever extent possible as well as "encouraging compactness". This district fails these charges and leaves a substantial chunk of Eurekans in a culturally and geographically separate Arcata.

Draft Plan A, District C appears to be, at best, a poor attempt at redistricting that flies in the face of requirements laid out in the California Constitution and, at worst, gerrymandering. The geographical gymnastics required for the Draft A, District C to annex a portion of Eureka and place it into a district with Arcata boggle the mind and hint at the untoward.

It's a bit hard to see on the maps provided, but having less of the southern reach of Eureka in Draft B, District C and more of the northeastern side of Eureka would make sense.
What would you keep about “Draft Plan B, District C”?
I like that it largely keeps Eureka whole while keeping some of the exurbs of Arcata and Eureka that are culturally similar together. I also like that it keeps the North peninsula together.

I'd like to see more continuity on the south end of Eureka, possibly at the expense of the eastern end of the district.

No response.Any other comments you would like to share with the Redistricting Advisory Commission?
I really hope that the Redsitricting Advisory Commission rethinks Draft Plan A. This map is poorly implemented and against guidelines for redistricting set forth by the California Constitution.
