Do you have any comments or suggestions about the Palmer Simmons Appeal of Removal from the Planning Commission?
As a resident and board member of Oak Marsh POA, I’d like it noted that Mr. Simmons has been cited for and found guilty of violating a town ordnance and has 2 citations currently pending in the courts. He is defying the same ordnances that he is charged with overseeing on the Planning Commission and was appropriately removed.
After being cited the first time, he has continued to flagrantly violate the town’s decree, bringing multiple trucks on to his property at 584 Spanish Wells Road. Once found guilty, the activity further intensified on a property not zoned for this type of activity – showing no intention to comply. Zoning laws exist for a reason and the citizens of Oak Marsh or any community should not be subject to this kind of disruption or activity.
The town of Hilton Head has more than a years’ worth of email and video evidence on file from residents of Oak Marsh supporting the ongoing illegal activity of running a commercial trucking operation – with (at times) up to 6 heavy duty, full size dump trucks simultaneously on Mr. Simmons property. Compressors, air impact wrenches, power washers and more are among the constant rattle of noise, as this activity disturbs a once quiet neighborhood of 30+ homes. Code enforcement officers have captured the activity as well and it is part of the record.
Simply put, it makes absolutely no sense to sit on a Planning Commission and repeatedly violate town ordinances, ignore citations, and perform illegal activity on your property. This sets a horrible precedent. We need to hold our representatives accountable to the same standards they expect from the residents of the island.
We ask that the removal be upheld and the commercial trucking activity be once and for all - brought to an end.
