Marshes District Plan Community Survey
The Marshes District is a unique area of Hilton Head Island, blending some of the Island’s oldest historic communities with more recent residential developments. Located around the Cross Island Expressway, this district includes neighborhoods such as Jonesville, Jarvis, Old House Creek, Gardner, and Spanish Wells. While primarily residential, the district features a handful of long-standing restaurants, churches, and marsh-oriented businesses that contribute to its charm.
The Marshes District offers a rare mix of historic and modern living, with several undeveloped lots providing opportunities for thoughtful growth. Through the Districts Area Planning Project, the future of these areas will be carefully considered, ensuring their integration with existing neighborhoods. This initiative will focus on conservation, land use, neighborhood character, infrastructure, and cultural heritage to support a vibrant and connected community.
Geographically, the Marshes District is bound by Jarvis Creek to the north and Broad Creek to the south. The Cross Island Parkway runs through the district from north to south, with Spanish Wells Road and Marshland Road serving as key transportation routes that connect and define the area.
This survey should take about 10 minutes to complete - a small amount of time to have some big impact. Your opinions and knowledge are very important as we move into the next phase of this planning and as we work with the district community to make decisions about the next steps. Thank you for your time and thoughtful ideas.
