Do you have any comments regarding the recommendation of Proposed CIP Fiscal Year 2023 Priority Projects to Town Council?
Hi, my name is Lori Surlak and I am a resident living on Jonesville rd. I am reaching out in support of placing a sidewalk and/or a bike path on Jonesville Rd. We have been living here for a while and I have personally experienced as well as witnessed several neighbors daily being run off the road while either walking, walking dogs or riding bikes by fast moving vehicles barreling down the road. Many of the fast cars are working in the area and not even residents. Just last evening my husband was almost killed while walking our dog. He was wearing a flashlight and on the side of the road in the dirt but truthfully there is nowhere to go when the cars race by. I understand that there are not a high number of speed monitoring public safety officers in the area and the traffic on our road would not be as high priority as some roads with higher traffic but I am concerned for the safety of our residence. There are plenty of people who walk or ride this road daily and it is just a matter of time before someone gets hurt or even worse killed by one of the MANY drivers flying down this winding road at speeds in excess of 50 MPH. But fast cars are not the only ones that risk hitting pedestrians. Many residents drive this road at recommended speeds, however this is an extremely winding road with many blind spots. Combine that with the extreme darkness at night and the blinding sunset lights, often times it is too late to swerve or stop when you come around one of the curves and suddenly see someone walking. There is no real shoulder but simply a ditch to the side and no place to get out of harms way. I am so thankful to the town for listening to citizens concerning capital improvement projects and I implore you to take this one into serious consideration. As more and more families move to this area this is certain to to be an ongoing issue, one with fatal implications. Thank you so much for listening and for your time and I look forward to hearing the discussions.
