HUGE shout out to Mike Fetters and Keith McNeill! Wednesday June 16th in the afternoon, the tarp on the trash truck was inoperable. Since we haven't gotten our other truck back, this is the only truck we can run cans with, and we can't run cans without the tarp working. Mike and Keith estimated a 3 hour repair. Since we had filled almost every one of our cans on Wednesday, not having a truck for 3 hours was going to be hard. Mike and Keith worked together first thing Thursday and got the repair done in an hour and a half instead of 3. Our mechanics always go above and beyond when they can and deserve to be recognized for it!

I would like to mention that our Public Works department has been working so hard and keeping up with the snow, road damage, maintenance and the transfer station.

When an employee switches positions or departments, their historical employment clock starts over even though they work for the same employer (Gilpin County). I would love to see time begin counting from the first day they started with the County regardless of position. For example, I began working as a Senior Aide in 2013, then switched to a Case Manager in 2014. When I get my annual kudos for sticking around, the County only acknowledges my service from 2014. Perhaps with the recent change in administration (over the last two years), this practice has changed? If not, I think it should. In terms of morale, the message sent to the employee is that everything they did prior to their current position was meaningless and not appreciated. I am speaking only of acknowledgement of service; I know benefits play by different rules.

I propose that the Big Idea suggestions review and meetings be done by a committee of employees from different departments and not upper management. Employee generated ideas and discussion may be more productive between non-supervisory workers.

Please do NOT go back to the 3% raises like we hear you are thinking about! Someone making $15 or $16 an hour wouldn't even get 50 cents an hour! While the $100,000 exempt folks would get all the raise money! Please go back to dividing it by the hour, as in previous years. If everyone gets 92 cents an hour or how ever it breaks out, it will be much more evenly distributed.
