What design standards should be included in the La Plaza Vieja character overlay?
To assist in the implementation of the 2015 La Plaza Vieja Neighborhood Specific Plan, the City of Flagstaff, with assistance from consultants at Makers Architecture and Planning, is working with the La Plaza Vieja Neighborhood to create a new "character" overlay zone that would apply to a specific area of the residential neighborhood. The overlay will have new design guidelines and graphic and photographic examples.
The objective of the overlay is to create easy to follow design requirement guidelines for new development that reinforces the neighborhood's residential architectural forms, features, and landscaping. The design guidelines are also intended to enhance the neighborhood boundaries that transition to commercial development edges as was identified in the La Plaza Vieja Specific Plan.
An initial community workshop was held in May of 2022 so residents and property owners of La Plaza Vieja could provide input into the character aspects they felt were important to maintain a feeling of familiarity in the neighborhood. Using the input from the initial workshop, another workshop was held in November of 2022 to present a series of potential character overlay standards to the community and gauge how the community felt about them.
This survey contains the design standards that were presented at the November community workshop and asks residents, homeowners, property owners and citizens to evaluate them. It will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete this survey.
