Flagstaff is an extraordinary place of beauty and open space. This is reflected in the openness and respect of citizens toward each other, and expressed toward the town's unique natural environment. Everyone here, resident and visitor, takes responsibility for caring about people and place, and contributing to a future in which all of Flagstaff thrives.

  • What are 3 questions about the Flagstaff Region that the Regional Plan should answer to help our community face the challenges of our present and future?
    • How to innovate and create more affordable housing, thinking about smaller dwellings, not huge complexes. How does this relate to climate change mitigation.
    • What to do about too many cars everywhere, on roads, sitting in traffic, parked in neighborhoods and on commercial streets. How does this relate to addressing climate change.
    • How to preserve open space, forests from overuse and degradation. How does this relate to climate change?
  • Do you have any other thoughts you want to share with the Regional Plan Update Team?

Water water water. Where will it come from? How does Flagstaff establish more conservation measures now?

Community Shared Values

Community shared values are core principles that are embraced by the people of a community. Think of them as Flagstaff’s Honor Code. Examples are “excellence,” “kindness,”

Consider these questions: What does Flagstaff stand for? What makes the people of Flagstaff great? How do we aspire to treat members of our community?

Write a Vision Statement

A Vision Statement reflects what community members value the most about their community and the shared aspirations of what they want their community to become. The Vision Statement should be inspirational and set the tone for the Flagstaff Region’s goals, policies, and actions.

Consider these questions: A vision is an overall image of what a community aspires to be now and in the future. What do you value? What inspires you? How do you describe it?

Below you can either use keywords to populate a mad-lib vision statement or you can write one of your own.

The Greater Flagstaff community embraces the Region’s extraordinary [things you value] __________________ and _____________________ though the active stewardship of [community assets] _______________, __________________, and ____________________. Residents and visitors [short phrase starting with a verb] ___________________________________________________________________in preparation for a sustainable and equitable future.
