  • Name three community values that are important to maintaining a high quality of life for all in the Flagstaff Region. Why are they important?
    • Connection to others/community; being connected to others is a basic human need . Strong Community connections support a large number of quality of life indicators. We have a loneliness epidemic.
    • Resilience/adaptability; we're in and continuing a period of transition. Due to a range of factors Flagstaff folks will need to be able to adapt to change.
    • Empowerment/political action; we need dramatic social change to adequately manage the future. This means people must be engaged and political processes.

The greater Flagstaff community deeply values and actively works to maintain the quality of life for all beings. Humans and the non-human world are honored and respected for their inherent value and their quality of life is maintained by all policies. Decisions are made by the residents and for the residents. The community adapts well to change.

  • What are 3 questions about the Flagstaff Region that the Regional Plan should answer to help our community face the challenges of our present and future?
    • How will the people of Flagstaff adapt to increase energy prices, food shortages, and other shocks to our system?
    • How can the human and nonhuman residents of the Flagstaff community be bolstered to counteract and overcome the Insidious impact of neoliberalism on well-being?
    • What is Flagstaff going to do win over run by climate refugees with resources? Will there be any way to maintain a quality of life for those without wealth in our region?
  • Do you have any other thoughts you want to share with the Regional Plan Update Team?

I would invite you all to consider scenario planning as a part of the plan. There are a number of projections that May happen: food shortages, increases in climate refugees in our area, potential breakdown of the democratic foundations of our country, and the collapse of our financial system. These occurrences are by no means certain and I would enjoy looking directly at these possibilities so that we're more prepared if they do arise. I'd love to support this process specifically. Community Shared Values

Community shared values are core principles that are embraced by the people of a community. Think of them as Flagstaff’s Honor Code. Examples are “excellence,” “kindness,”

Consider these questions: What does Flagstaff stand for? What makes the people of Flagstaff great? How do we aspire to treat members of our community?

Write a Vision Statement

A Vision Statement reflects what community members value the most about their community and the shared aspirations of what they want their community to become. The Vision Statement should be inspirational and set the tone for the Flagstaff Region’s goals, policies, and actions.

Consider these questions: A vision is an overall image of what a community aspires to be now and in the future. What do you value? What inspires you? How do you describe it?

Below you can either use keywords to populate a mad-lib vision statement or you can write one of your own.

The Greater Flagstaff community embraces the Region’s extraordinary [things you value] __________________ and _____________________ though the active stewardship of [community assets] _______________, __________________, and ____________________. Residents and visitors [short phrase starting with a verb] ___________________________________________________________________in preparation for a sustainable and equitable future.
