My mental health....too much sun and not enough precip makes me panic and get depressed.
Based on your amount of concern for the above items, do you think the City Council’s 2019 sustainability goals are not stringent enough, about right or too stringent?
An 80% reduction in community-wide and municipal greenhouse gas emissions from 2016 levels by 2050, with an interim goal of a 30% reduction by 2030 - About right
100% renewable electricity by 2050, with an interim goal of 50% renewable electricity by 2030 - About right
Please elaborate.
No response.
The Sustainability Plan Working Group holds equity as a core value of the plan process. What is your understanding of how Climate Change/Sustainability Planning and equity intersect?
Little understanding. I would not be the person to ask to explain this to a child. But I get the gist of it.
Are there any sectors or subsectors missing from this list that you think should be included in Durango’s Sustainability Plan?
Recreation...this industry relies our climate. And the way durango parks and rec operates can also contribute to the problem or solution
Are there any sectors or subsectors on this list you don’t think need to be addressed in Durango’s Sustainability Plan?
No response.
Is there anything else that you would like to add?
My ideas that have long been my soapbox. The edgemont empire is growing and growing with no end in sight. We need a bike lane...a separate bike lane with a railing or fence all the way to CR 234. With this, kids, etc. could be safe riding to school. Would reduce morning traffic immensely and actually saves time. It's sometimes faster! Bike racks on the school buses so kids can get their bikes back home. Or get their bikes into town and ride bikes around to extracurriculars instead of parents idling in the parking lot waiting for them.or driving them around town when they could easily bike around. Pass a no idling law like Toronto's. Durango is growing but amenities are not keeping pace. Long ago the public outdoor pool was filled in for baseball fields. Now we have more baseball fields, have more soccer fields, but no public, affordable outdoor pool. The river beaches are getting crowded, there's little to no parking, they risk getting trashed, they are often swarmed with drunk college kids so there is nowhere to go with young children. The river banks can be subject to damaging erosion, and it isn't safe for little kids. As the climate heats up, more and more people seek refreshment around water. I applaud the efforts and money that has gone into nighthorse and oxbow, but those beaches still need development and parking, and even with these locations, an outdoor pool is still greatly needed. Trimble is crazy expensive, the rec center is indoors, and every other pool in town is private, or inadequate, and most likely at a hotel. Sad that we have to rent a hotel room to swim at an outdoor pool. Why not a pool at three springs, or the Ewing Mesa development where it is less likely to rain during monsoon? There are the bubble covers that can turn the pool into a 4 season pool. A few years ago an article in national geographic featured pools as an important community feature that actually conserves water by sharing water, recycling water. Also, is the water at the rec center splash pad recycled? It doesn't feel like it's on a pump system, it feels so cold that it must be coming straight out of the tap and down the drain, used once. Last, the land for sale just north of oxbow. Perfect for parking, a bathroom, nature trails and more beach, no boat ramp, just slow pace beachgoers that must hike in 10 minutes. No, that wasn't the last thing....shouldn't we have another elementary school in edgemont by now? Walking community....Riverview is over crowded, another way to reduce traffic. What are the laws regarding collecting rainwater to use in the yard....why is this outlawed anywhere?
Virtual City Hall is not a certified voting system or ballot box. As with any public comment process, participation in Virtual City Hall is voluntary. The responses in this record are not necessarily representative of the whole population, nor do they reflect the opinions of any government agency or elected officials.
