Please let us know if there are specific factors that have impacted your ranking of satisfaction in this survey.
The biggest issue for me is affordability. Grocery prices are 40% higher than where other family members live, health insurance is higher because of our rural location, restaurants are not affordable for locals, and airfare is prohibitive. I guess that's the price we pay to live in a great place, but I hope as a community we keep striving to improve those things.
Also, City parks & rec department seems to run the town. I would like to see a lot more accountability from the Parks & Rec leadership. The current fiefdom model of leadership should be rethought. And expenditures the size needed for the 32nd st. bridge might be best implemented with specific public approval.
One other big thing on my mind is uncontrolled development between Durango and Bayfield. This is mainly a county issue, but the city can have some influence on the Durango (West) side of the issue. It would be very poor form to allow unplanned growth to occur and increase travel time to Bayfield for travelers and people commuting.
