The City of Cupertino is seeking input on proposed policies to reduce youth access to tobacco products by prohibiting the sale of flavored tobacco products and reducing the availability of tobacco. Tobacco use, which remains the number one preventable cause of death and disease in California, causes nearly 40,000 deaths in California every year. In Santa Clara County, one in eight deaths annually is attributed to smoking-related illness or diseases, such as cancer, heart disease, and respiratory diseases. Nearly one in three Santa Clara County teens – 32 percent – report that they have used an e-cigarette at least once.
