What do you LIKE about the green striping? The green striping is a clear indication that bicycles are present on the streets and have an equal right to use our streets. Sadly some drivers don't accept, or are ignorant of this right.
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? I worry that it might be a little slippery when when. Perhaps an abrasive, like sand, could be added to the paint, or applied to it when still wet. But even if a little slippery I prefer them than not.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Laurel and Encinal , Laurel and Glenwood
Are there specific intersections where you think a HIGHER LEVEL of striping would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Glenwood and Encinal between El Camino and Middlefield. With the new traffic light at Encinal and Middlefield commuter traffic has increased on these two streets. I'd love to see bike lanes added to Glenwood, but failing a wider road, I'd like to see markings to share the road.
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? Yes, I think it will add to driver awareness and bike safety.
Green striping on the length of Valparaiso would also be good.
Are you familiar with other types of markings that you would like Atherton to consider? If so, what/where are they? Per previous comments I'd like to see more recognition for bicycles on Glenwood Avenue, understanding the constraints of no shoulder on this street.

What do you LIKE about the green striping? Will hopefully keep bicyclists safer by creating a clear bike zone so drivers will be less inclined to pass in the bike lane. Along Middlefield signs that say "do not pass in the bike lane" should be added, similar to those installed at Valparaiso.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: At all intersections used by students bicycling to schools
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? Yes! and add no passing signs

What do you LIKE about the green striping? Enhanced bike safety.
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? Nothing.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Most of Valparaiso, Most of Middlefield
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? Fine. I would consider Valparaiso too. A friend of ours was hit from behind while riding to school on Valparaiso.

What do you LIKE about the green striping? It is much safer because it makes it more obvious to car drivers where the bike lane is. It also is a public statement that Atherton supports green transportation.
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? Nothing.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Any intersection near a school, and all intersections on El Camino Real, Valparaiso, Atherton Ave., Middlefield, and Ringwood
Are there specific intersections where you think a HIGHER LEVEL of striping would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: See prior answer.
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? Absolutely!
Are you familiar with other types of markings that you would like Atherton to consider? If so, what/where are they? There should be dotted lines to indicate when cars are allowed to enter the bike lane.

What do you LIKE about the green striping? The green striping is a great reminder to drivers to watch out for cyclists - it catches your attention. If the road is just plain asphalt, you are much less likely to be vigilant about watching for cyclists who can be hard to see. Also, the green striping helps to remind drivers that it's illegal to go around another driver on the right hand side, using the bike lane. This happens ALL THE TIME on Valparaiso and more green striping on that street (on both the Atherton and Menlo Park sides) would help improve safety. The green striping that was recently added to Valparaiso has been quite helpful and I am so glad to have it done!
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? Nothing. I think it's been very helpful in some intersections where bike accidents have occurred.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Valparaiso and Elena (especially Menlo Park side, but the other side for Sacred Heart bicyclists), Valparaiso and Arbor (especially Atherton side. People block traffic to go to St. Raymond's and others drive in the bike lane.), Valparaiso and Emilie (especially the Menlo Park side, but also because of Sacred Heart School on the Atherton side)
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? No strong opinion either way. If bike traffic is significant along Middlefield, then full striping might work really well. Regardless, there should be striping at every intersection along Middlefield on both sides to remind drivers to look for cyclists.
Are you familiar with other types of markings that you would like Atherton to consider? If so, what/where are they? I do wish there was a way to highlight to drivers that they shouldn't pass in the bike lane. Recent signs added along Valparaiso are helpful, but I worry that many drivers don't look at them. Maybe the signs should be bigger or a different color? Or can you stencil on the road something about "no passing" in the bike lane itself.

What do you LIKE about the green striping? While it makes it clear to cyclists where motorists can expect them to be. Makes it just a bit more clear to motorist where to watch for bicyclists.
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? In combination with the white striping, it restricts the driving lane, which is already pretty narrow in the Atherton area. This puts cars closer to the center and provides less room to avoid things that pop up suddenly such as squirrels, pets, etc. Also, the maintenance cost of this striping (wear and tear, resurfacing) is higher.
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? I am not in favor (see dislikes).

What do you LIKE about the green striping? I think it is advantageous to have those places where cars and bikes must merge at larger intersections; it is a good reminder. However, I hope the use of green markings is limited to the areas most dangerous.
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? I wonder if it is slippery for bikers.
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? This might be a good idea for the areas around the two schools. I believe the worst area for cars driving in the bike lane is along Valpariso so this area should be considered also.
Are you familiar with other types of markings that you would like Atherton to consider? If so, what/where are they? I think the bike markings with arrows (down Watkins, etc.) are a waste of paint.

What do you LIKE about the green striping? It makes car drivers more aware of a bike lane. The signs we have so far don't really raise awareness.
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? Nothing. Every means is acceptable to maker more people bike in our town.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: No specific. Overall I would appreciate more signage around schools like Menlo School and Sacred Heart, Selby Lane.
Are there specific intersections where you think a HIGHER LEVEL of striping would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Atherton Avenue / Alameda de las Pulgas, Alameda de las Pulgas between Menlo Park and 84 should have a higher level of striping
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? Yes this might help our bikers to stay safe

What do you LIKE about the green striping? Creates more awareness of cyclists.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Oak Grove and el Camino, Ravenswood and el Camino, All of el Camino
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? Absolutely yes. Many commuters use this road.

What do you LIKE about the green striping? Nothing!!!
What do you DISLIKE about the green striping? They are ugly, intrusive and fail to match with the Town's General Plan requirement for a rural character. The color is far too bright and miserably intrusive. Please consider painting any new lanes in a less hideous hue, and repainting as possible those already painted this terrible color.
Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: Any and all
Are there specific intersections where you think a HIGHER LEVEL of striping would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections: NO
In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this? OMG please do not do this. What is next, sidewalks, and the abandonment of all attempt to maintain a rural environment??
