In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this?

Are you familiar with other types of markings that you would like Atherton to consider? If so, what/where are they?

  • What do you LIKE about the green striping?

Almost nothing. It forces bikes onto the far side of lanes, where most 'stuff' accumulates
anyway. Bikes have to avoid, so they are close to edge of bike lane mostly, defeating purpose. However, it does make a bit of sense on high traffic streets just to perhaps keep both bicycles and cars out of each other's way. But problematical at turns/intersections.

  • What do you DISLIKE about the green striping?

Forcing bikes to far side makes them cope w. all kinds of stuff accumulating there. Best to
share lanes. Yes, this means everyone has to be aware: cars and bikes. Striping also narrows lanes unduly, esp. on non arterial streets, and even on some larger ones. Better to create bike PATHS, no cars allowed there. Also the green paint I've seen is ugly, utilitarian only.

No, for reasons stated. Middlefield is too much a muddle w. traffic anyway. Better to encourage more bike traffic on parallel or other streets. Crosswalks and signs near
M-A or other large traffic areas a good idea, however.

  • Are you familiar with other types of markings that you would like Atherton to consider? If so, what/where are they?

    Unfamiliar, but worth looking into.
