In addition to green striping applications at intersections, some communities have painted the entirety of the bike lane green along busy roadways. The Town is considering this along Middlefield Road - what are your thoughts about this?

Are you familiar with other types of markings that you would like Atherton to consider? If so, what/where are they?

  • What do you LIKE about the green striping?

The green striping is a clear indication that bicycles are present on the streets and have an equal right to use our streets. Sadly some drivers don't accept, or are ignorant of this right.

  • What do you DISLIKE about the green striping?

I worry that it might be a little slippery when when. Perhaps an abrasive, like sand, could be added to the paint, or applied to it when still wet. But even if a little slippery I prefer them than not.

  • Are there specific intersections where you think this treatment would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections:
    • Laurel and Encinal
    • Laurel and Glenwood
  • Are there specific intersections where you think a HIGHER LEVEL of striping would be helpful? If yes, please specify intersections:
    • Glenwood and Encinal between El Camino and Middlefield. With the new traffic light at Encinal and Middlefield commuter traffic has increased on these two streets. I'd love to see bike lanes added to Glenwood, but failing a wider road, I'd like to see markings to share the road.

Yes, I think it will add to driver awareness and bike safety.
Green striping on the length of Valparaiso would also be good.

Per previous comments I'd like to see more recognition for bicycles on Glenwood Avenue, understanding the constraints of no shoulder on this street.
