1. What is your past involvement with the Traffic Calming Program? (check all that apply)
I regularly drive on streets where traffic calming devices are installed
Other - Family member lives on an A2 neighborhood street that is in DIRE need of traffic calming. Street is used as a fast cut through & vehicles are constant w/many well over the speed limit.
2. Which of the following do you view as benefits of the Traffic Calming Program? (check all that apply)
Reduced speed
Less cut-through traffic
Other - More speed enforcement, cars blow thru red light constantly & speeding has become the norm.Strengthening of enforcement is long overdue & should be serious considered as a primary action
3. Please check any concerns that you have about the Traffic Calming Program
Traffic diverted to neighboring streets
Increased noise
Other - Start w/speed enforcement to make drivers more aware of their surroundings, especially in neighborhoods streets used as a cut through to avoid red lights
4. Do the proposed thresholds for community participation and support seem reasonable?
Undecided
5. Does the community engagement format and strategy seem effective?
Yes
6. Do you have additional comments or questions related to the proposed engagement process?
May be effective if driven by the people living in specific neighborhoods or areas targeted.
7. Do the proposed program objectives capture what you think is important?
No
8. Have we missed anything in the proposed objectives that you think should be added?
Way too involved and likely to take so long, nothing will be accomplished. Identify the problems, opt for the best solution based on input from those areas affected and get it done.
9. Do you have concerns about any of the proposed qualification criteria?
Appears to be highly detailed to solve a problem.
10. Have we missed any other factors that should be included in determining eligibility for the Traffic Calming Program?
No response.
11. Do you have concerns about anything included in the proposed toolbox of devices?
No, appears any of them would be effective and are sorely needed in so many areas of the city. Granted, drivers pay a hefty gas tax for the roads but drivers need to be reined in so speeds are reduced which should bring more awareness to surroundings - pedestrians and bikes. By the same token, pedestrians & bikes have a responsibility to be aware as well and not just take for granted they can walk into the street while texting or on the phone without even glancing up and just stepping out. A raised hand by a pedestrian at a curb would at least alert a driver that they are stepping into the road and make the pedestrian pay attention as well. Bikes zip in front of cars without even a glance and need to be more aware of their responsibility in adhering to road rules as well.
12. Have we missed any devices that should be added to the toolbox for traffic calming on local streets?
???
13. What questions or concerns do you have about how the Traffic Calming Program will function?
Just how soon and quickly things will start.
A2 Open City Hall is not a certified voting system or ballot box. As with any public comment process, participation in A2 Open City Hall is voluntary. The responses in this record are not necessarily representative of the whole population, nor do they reflect the opinions of any government agency or elected officials.
