The City of Ann Arbor has contracted with Community Feedback to monitor responses shown on this website.

  • To prevent any single user from dominating the forum, the City of Ann Arbor restricts the number of responses any one user can post on selected topics. Registration helps Community Feedback enforce this restriction.

While no authentication procedure can perfectly detect every fraudulent registration, Community Feedback is able to secure the registered channel against systematic fraud: cases where users submit enough statements with fraudulent registrations to sway the overall interpretation of the feedback.

Community Feedback is unable to secure the unregistered channel against systematic fraud, because unregistered users are anonymous.

The unregistered channel is for users who want to provide quick feedback without registering, and/or whose privacy concerns would prevent them from participating if required to register. Because many users with valuable insights will only share them anonymously, this channel gives decision makers the option to consider those insights in their deliberations.

OpenGov is a non-partisan company whose mission is to broaden civic engagement and build public trust in government. The City of Ann Arbor has contracted with OpenGov to administer A2 Open City Hall.

What’s a bike box?
A bike box is a designated area at the front of a traffic lane at a signalized intersection that provides bicyclists with a safe and visible way to get ahead of queuing traffic during the red signal phase. 

Why install bike boxes? 
•    Increases visibility of bicyclists and improves their safety. 
•    Helps bicyclists get in left turn position during the red signal.
•    Groups bicyclists together to clear an intersection quickly, minimizing impediment to transit or other traffic.
•    Enhances the active transportation environment.

GREEN COLORED PAVEMENT for bike lanes is planned as part of this project.

Colored pavement will be implemented along the length of the bike lanes between Stadium and Stimson to increase visibility of the lanes, in the conflict zone at the southern end of the project, and in the bicycle box at the intersection with Eisenhower Parkway.

 Why use green pavement pigment?

•    Promotes the multi-modal nature of a corridor (e.g., a street with dedicated space for people driving and people biking).
•    Makes it easier to see the space dedicated for people biking and improves their safety.
•    Raises motorist and bicyclist awareness to potential areas of conflict.  
•    Increases bicyclist comfort by providing clearly marked space to ride 
•    Increases the likelihood that a person driving will yield to a person biking. 
•    Reinforces priority to bicyclists in green colored area. 
•    Enhances the active transportation environment.

DESIGN CONCEPT

Vehicle Lane Narrowing

City Council has acted to make Ann Arbor a Vision Zero city with a target of zero traffic fatalities by 2025.  This goal is a guiding principal of the transportation plan update.  Managing vehicle travel speed significantly decreases crash severity.  Reductions in driving speed has exponential benefit to the humans involved in crashes.

Vehicle speeds are influenced by how fast a driver feels they can safely travel. Narrower travel lanes require greater caution to maintain the lane and avoid conflicts and may lead to lower vehicle speeds and improved safety.

An easy to implement tool for reducing travel speeds is to reduce the width of the driving lane.  Vehicle lane narrowing will be implemented along the full length of this project corridor.

Vehicle Lane Reallocation

City Council has set policy directing staff to design Complete Streets and reduce the number of vehicle miles traveled by 50%.  City staff enact these policies by designing streets that provide transportation options for everyone.  Vehicle lane narrowing and vehicle lane reallocation achieves these goals by adjusting existing street width to provide space for all travel types on the corridor.

This project includes a limited section of vehicle lane removal just south of Stimson Street. This design creates continuous bike lanes along the corridor and extends the two-way left turn lane.
